Myths about losing weight
Myth no.1 – If you reduce substantially the quantity of calories, you’ll lose weight faster.
Partly true, but just for the first few days or weeks. It is a wrong atitude. When you suddenly reduce most of the quantity of calories your body is used to, you are actually getting your organism to starving. Your body will try to
protect its resources and will slow down the rate of metabolism. It’s like you’ve spent your money, you have just a few and you don’t know when you will receive the next amount: you start spending less in order to stick to it for a longer period of time. Regarding the metabolism this translates into slowing down and eventually the stop of weight loss.
Myth no.2 – The stricter the diet is the better it will get results
Statistics say that most people are looking for rough diets, complicated and restrictive as if it would be a punishment to their body. Balanced, normal, bearable diets are faced out with scepticism and mistrust. You must have heard of the popular cabbage soup. This type of diets are wrong and deprive the body of lots of important nutrients and soon lead to boredom and abandon.
Myth no.3 – One should never ever touch again the non healthy meals they most prefer
We are human so we have “forbidden” pleasures in food as well. It’s very hard for someone crazy about chocolate to find out that he or she could no longer eat any of this product.Of course that you can have from time to time some of your favourite meals. This will keep you motivated and reduce the risk to quit your diet at some point. Moderation is the key to a succesful slim body diet.
Myth no.4 – If you eat at night, you will get fat
It doesn’t matter that much the time of the day you eat. What matters is the quantity you ingest (the calories) and the caloric consumption through phisical activity every day. It is recommended that you don’t eat very much in the evening because after that comes a period of 8 hours of repose when the body doesn’t need energy, so it doesn’t burn the calories you have just ingested. On the other hand if you eat something light, you won’t feel that annoying hunger sensation. If it still appears than you can grab a fruit or 1-2 crackers.
Myth no.5 – You must not eat between main meals
On the contrary, if you take a quick light bite you will keep your body’s glycemia constant and the metabolism active.
Also you will find it easier to avoid the hunger sensation before your next meal.
Myth no.6 – Fat is bad!
It is a big mistake to consider the food fats as being harmful for the body. The excess of fats is harmful. We all need as human beings a certain amount of lipids, because many parts of of our structures are made of fats. More than that the presence of fats in the food makes it more tasteful and satiable. Certain fats like Omega 3 which are found in fish and sea shells are absolutely necessary for the well-being of the human body.
Myth no.7 – If you skip meals, you will lose weight efficiently
It is more likely if you skip meals to gain weight. You will get so hungry that you will forget all about losing weight. The hunger is a feeling much too strong to be controlled, because the feeding is a primary instinct. Think about the way you think or behave when you are “hungry to death” – you forget all about diets and usually eat as much as you need to feel satisfied. Most of the times junkies. That’s why it is important not to skip any meals and even eat between them to avoid getting hungry. The most important meal of the day is breakfast, because it gives you the energy your body needs for a brand new day that has just started and you have the entire day for yourself to consume that energy.
Myth no.8 – Diary products should not be included in weight loss diets
There are many teories, even books written on this matter. In reality, the diaries should exist in everyone’s diet, no matter if they want to lose weight or not. We all need calcium, especially children, women and sportsmen. Choose low fat diaries but don’t quit them. You body needs their benefits.
Myth no.9 – If you drink lots of water you will lose weight easier
The water is a key element for a healthy lifestyle and you must have enough of it. The only way you can lose weight by drinking water is by replacing the juice (which includes sugar) with still mineral water. The truth is that the primary parameter that indicates an efficient nutritional diet is the rate of metabolism which is specific to each individual. Every person should follow his/her own metabolic characteristics. Once you’ve determined your own metabolic rate you can proceed to a custom lifesyle that is best fitted for you and your weight loss purposes.
